This offseason now former Rural Retreat ball coach Quentin Hensley made the decision to leave behind his successful career on the gridiron and take on a new life in administration. Assistant Chris Moore now steps up to fill the shoes left by Hensley and Dean Rhea, two predacessors that are tough to follow. Moore is up for the challenge and with the hype surrounding his ball club, he's excited to get things started in is own coaching era. Coach Moore was kind enough to lend a few moments and answer a few questions. Lets get to know him!
When/where did you graduate high school/college?
I graduated from Rural Retreat in 1996 and Emory & Henry in 2000.
Who are some coaching inspirations for you from when you were in high school?
Dean Rhea and Quentin Hensley.
What are some memorable moments you have from your playing days?
Beating George Wythe 35-0 my senior year.
What are some memorable moments you have from being on the coaching staff?
We won three regional championships in a row.
Do your coaching philosophies differ from the one’s before you? (Rhea & Hensley)
Not really, the formula has been working right for 30 years.
Is there a lot of pressure following coaches with the reputation Rhea and Hensley have?
Yes.
Do you have any particular games circled on the schedule for this season?
All of them.
Do you have any opinions on the future VHSL alignments?
It needs to stay the way it is right now. D 1 doesn't need 6 teams in the playoffs but D 2 does. Next year's alignment will allow bigger teams to make a huge impact on schools 1/3rd their size. 800-1200 is not that big of difference. 300-450 is a huge difference....
Do you visit Hogoheegee.com at all? Your opinion of the website?
I visit somewhat during football season. The site is well done.
What do you love most about the game of football?
The camaraderie.
Good luck this season coach and thanks for helping out with the website! |
