garthAfter a long weekend off, our friend Garth Vader has returned.  This time he sheds some light on Patrick Henry's season and schedule.  Leave him some comments and let him know what you think!

I definitely missed out on any and all scrimmages this weekend.  My Uncle needed some help moving furniture and he pays well. He pays in all space-bucks which isn't really worth anything at all because I obviously live on earth, but whatever... he's a nice guy.  But of all the scrimmages and benefit games that I missed, the one I was pretty glad I missed was Patrick Henry's.

Glade Spring

Glade Spring, Virginia; better known as "Truck Stop" is the home of local favorites like Giordinio's Pizza and the 5 O'Clock Bar.  If there is anything to be said about the 5 O'Clock Bar then it probably can't be said on this website! (I assume)

The Patrick Henry Rebels also stomp on the grounds of Glade Spring, which is a nice place to live especially if you like peace and quiet.  But even if you hate peace and quiet, Glade Spring is still a winner.

The Patrick Henry Rebels

The "mighty" Rebels haven't been so mightly of late.  The sad saga of the Rebels continued this weekend as Marion harassed PH in a 35-0 shackling.  Last year they struggled with the loss of Ronnie Groves as the remainder of the Rebels were much easier to catch and tackle. This preseason diagonosis appears to be unfortunately similar.  John Whitesides is probably the most experienced and talented quarterback in the district, aside from perhaps Rural Retreat's Zane Williams.  But with no one to throw to, an unproductive offensive line, and not a very proven backfield, his talents are sure to be muffled.

The Sked..

While talent, numbers, speed, or size isn't on PH's side, their schedule is.  Non-district opponents such as Bland, Appalachia, and John Battle provide hope that PH will net some wins this year, even with morale at a glaring low.

Bland County - The Bears aren't going to be a threat for a couple more seasons.  PH should take this one, but it won't be easy.  Patrick Henry by 6 or less

at Abingdon - This rivalry has lost its spunk.  Both schools still hate each other but this game hasn't mattered in over a decade.  Abingdon by 20

JJ Kelly - The good news is, PH doesn't have to travel all the way to Wise to lose this one.  JJ Kelly by 30

at John Battle - Battle showed PH last year that they were turning over a new leaf with Ryan Witten at the coaching helm.  They will remind them again this year.  Battle by 14

Appalachia - It's not the Appalachia of the 90's.  Patrick Henry by 8

Rural Retreat - The Indians are going to be tough to beat, especially for PH. Rural Retreat by 18

at George Wythe - George Wythe by 35

at Chilhowie - It's only a 5 minute bus ride. Chilhowie by 33

Northwood - While I think the Panthers have some spunk this year, especially after looking at their recent scrimmage scores, I still think PH wins.  Patrick Henry by 20

at Holston - The Cavs haven't gelled yet as their preseason has been a little eye-opening.  But Matlock has all season to prepare the boys for this one.  Holston by 13.

The good news for Patrick Henry is that I hear their 8th grade is supposed to be special.  This year doesn't look good for Patrick Henry but with Division 1 in their future, there is a chance Compton can redeem his coaching career soon enough.  Better days lie ahead for PH.

Good Luck Rebels and may the force be with you!
