Happy Monday. Garth is pumped for this week and is ready to share his thoughts on the Indians from Rural Retreat. Let him know what you think!

Rural Retreat seems to always be the team clouded in mystery. This year I know very little about them which is odd considering I firmly believe they will compete for a share of the district crown. Quentin Hensely left coaching to forward his career in administration and long-time assistant Chris Moore is now the man in charge.
I went over to Yoda's swamp shack this morning to pick up my kids (Yoda baby sits now, the economy has been brutal across the galaxy) and I asked him if he knew anything about the Indians (he is a wise jedi, afterall) and he said, "Darkhorse, the Indians are" in his little rhaspy voice. My kids love him, but he creeps me out.
Rural Retreat
Rural Retreat doesn't lie. Very ruraly and very retreaty, at the same time. There is also a lake there and people like that lake.
Injuns
Rural Retreat learned how to play football in the late 80's and remembered how to for almost twenty years. The last couple of seasons the Indians have failed to meet the standard mark set by their predacessors but many prognositactors including myself believe this year the Indians break through and retake their spot as one of Division 1's finest. Can they compete with the likes of Eastern Montgomery who several believe will make a state run? No. But East Mont is likely the team RR will lose to in the Region C finals.
The Beat
Rural Retreat boasts lots of athletecism and experience. Starting with their quarterback, Zane Williams. (Zayne, Zane, Xane?) Last year he opened some eyes with several nice scoring drives with his arm. He's not quite Matthew Heldreth from the middle of the decade, but as of right now he's one of the best our area has to offer. Travis Foster was his go to receiver last year, hauling in several spectacular catches and many of those for long scores. Rural Retreat has had a stable of decent horses in the backfield the last couple of years but one young guy caught my eye last year in a 200 yard game... Tyler Caudill. Look out for this kid.
Fort Chiswell - The Fort lost a whole bunch from last year. Rural Retreat didn't. RR by 3
at Floyd County - Floyd isn't going to be good this year. Rural Retreat can be. RR by 6
at Grayson County - The Devils are trying to climb out of a recent hole. Rural Retreat is going to kick them back down in it. RR by 6
Marion - Marion will be tough for Rural Retreat to overcome. Marion by 7
Glenvar - Several believe this is Glenvar's year. I don't think it is but I think they can beat RR. Glenvar by 14
at Patrick Henry - PH's season could be long. RR by 18
Holston - The Cavs are going to struggle in Rural Retreat. RR by 14
at Northwood - Meow? RR by 35
George Wythe - Big rivalry. Big margin. GW by 21
Chilhowie - Tough way to close out the season with GW and Chilhowie but they're at home. Chilhowie by 15
Rural Retreat can set the tone of their season early by knocking off the first three teams they play but it won't be easy. Coach Moore has his hands full but a 6-4 season will likely land the Indians in a high division 1 seed. A 3-7 seed will probably still get them in, sadly.
Good luck and may the force be with you! |
