garthGarth lends his last assessment.  This time it's George Wythe's turn to go under the microscope.  Leave some comments...

So I saved the best for last.  The best football team anyway.  George Wythe loses a lot of flash from last season but they reload and we all know it.  They play coy with their talks about being young and undersized, but they're just luring us all in to make it interesting.  When it comes to football, for the last ten years, George Wythe has just been on a different level than other Hogo teams.  To every other Hogo team, George Wythe is a dark sith lord and the rest of the schools are happy-go-lucky gungans.  That is Star Wars talk for George Wythe is really good and the rest of us ain't.  George Wythe's soul purpose is to suck the life out of teams with a debilitating beat down that usual ends with George Wythe's JV's getting some good fourth quarter action and the stands being cleared midway through the third quarter.

Wytheville

One of the greatest places on earth if you have a thing for interstates and water towers.  To the rest of us, the mere fact that Wytheville has a Wal-Mart sets them apart from everyone else on the field.  Wal-Mart breeds talent.  Radford = Wal-Mart. Marion = Wal-Mart.  Lebanon = Wal-Mart.  Abingdon = K-Mart.  See?

Marooners

Who plays for George Wythe this year?  I have no idea.  Hardy Lester is a guy on that team and is a solid athlete.  I don't know what he does for Coach Ingo nowadays but you can bet it has something to do with being awesome and holding a football.  While the Maroons are young and probably a little inexperienced, by week 5 you and I will know all of their names.  And probably call them by their first names.. much like Brandon, Tristan, and Drew.

A Trip Through Scheduleville

Tazewell - This one is usually close no matter what.  George Wythe by 13

at Radford - One of the greatest yet unspoken rivalries around.  Radford is mean.  Radford by 28

Floyd County - The Buffaloes have lost their buff.  George Wythe by 21

at Giles - This one will be close.  Giles by 6

Fort Chiswell - Last year was crazy and hostile and the national anthem was involved.  George Wythe by 14

at Chilhowie - Their toughest district game and it comes early.  George Wythe by 2

Patrick Henry - The Rebels have a tank full of bad.  George Wythe by 35

Holston - Last year this game was supposed to be good.  It was.. for a half.  George Wythe by 30

at Rural Retreat - Because of each team's competitiveness this is hands down the best rivalry in the district.  Which is sad.  George Wythe by 21

at Northwood - Snoozer.  George Wythe by 40ish

8-2 and a high playoff seed is what George Wythe can expect.  If they play their cards right they could get a rematch with either Chilhowie or Radford in the playoffs which would definitely be something worth watching.  Rematches are always fun but even more unpredictable than the first match.  I don't see a Region C championship in Wytheville this year but 8-2 with a playoff berth would be a great season for most of these young and inexperienced Maroons.

Good luck and may the force be with you!

You will have to update to the new helmet. It is sweet.
Great write up, 8-2 would be a nice season for G-Dub. As always, we are expecting 10-0.
Reload is a great way to put it. It will be hard for defenses to key on an Atwell type star, so this year we will keep 'em guessing. Don't sleep on us!
