Chilhowie 64, George Wythe 31
Despite struggling mightily for the first four minutes of both the first and second quarters, respectively, Chilhowie – thanks to a game-high 21 points from Danielle Catron – used its welcomed 3-point accuracy in building an insurmountable double-digit halftime advantage.
Just four days removed from a woeful 3-for-21 performance behind the arc in a 52-45 loss against district leader Patrick Henry, the Warriors (12-4, 4-1) opened up the packed-in George Wythe defense with a combined four triples from Kristen Caudill (11 points) and Lauren Jones.
“On Friday night, we couldn’t buy one,” admitted Chilhowie coach Mark Halsey, whose squad finished 5-of-13 from 3-point land. “We also didn’t get out of the gate very well tonight. But I felt like once we got three or four minutes under our belts, we started hitting shots.”
Chilhowie, which embarked upon a game-clinching 21-2 surge during third-quarter play, forced the host Maroons (6-9, 1-4) into 36 turnovers thanks to an unforgiving 1-2-2 press.
Kristen Atwell, meanwhile, collected a team-high 18 points for George Wythe.
