capKrystal Patton was feeling it on January 14.

The Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University sophomore’s shots were falling, her intensity level was high and she made big play after big play.

The end result was a career-high 19 points as L-R posted a 69-66 women’s basketball win over South Atlantic Conference foe Brevard.

“That was one of her best games,” Lenoir-Rhyne coach Todd Starkey told the Hickory Daily Record. “We tell players that are on the bench that you have to prepare yourself for when it’s your opportunity and take advantage. [Patton] took full advantage of it. The reason we won this game today is she came ready to play today.”

The former Chilhowie High School star was rewarded for the performance. She earned her first start of the season and second of her collegiate career on Saturday in a win over Lincoln Memorial and finished with seven points and three rebounds.

Patton is averaging 5.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest this season.

Buckhannon’s best

Radford University junior Ashley Buckhannon had 19 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals on Saturday in the Highlanders’ 66-64 women’s basketball loss to Winthrop.

For the season, the former George Wythe High School standout is averaging 14.0 points, 2.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.
