Even though George Wythe sports a rather youthful squad for this year’s fall campaign, learning the proverbial two-minute offense took a unique turn during Friday’s five-team jamboree at Virginia High’s Gene Malcolm Stadium.
Arriving down Euclid Avenue much later than planned, the Maroons swiftly got off the bus, stretched for a minute or two and then immediately trotted onto to the playing surface – ultimately getting a hard-earned 7-0 victory over the host Bearcats behind a late 6-yard TD run from quarterback Alex Willis.

Meg Turner was a pioneer of sorts for girls basketball in Southwest Virginia.
In the modern era of the girls game, she was the area’s first true superstar and graduated with several state records to her credit.
The numbers are impressive.
The 5-foot-10 George Wythe High School standout ended her career with 2,202 points and 1,139 rebounds.
