Patrick Henry’s Cadence Wilmoth and George Wythe’s Kristen Atwell left little doubt why they are two of the best post players in Southwest Virginia on Friday night.

It was Wilmoth and PH that collected a 47-38 Hogoheegee District girls basketball victory and it wasn’t easy.

Cadence Wilmoth had a monster night with 30 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocks to power Patrick Henry to its 14th straight win with a 78-27 Hogoheegee District decision over Rural Retreat on Monday in girls basketball.

Jaymee Copenhaver had a season-high 19 points for the Rebels (7-0, 15-3) while Kasey Uecker had 14 points along with six rebounds and six assists.

Damascus was recently rated as the one of “America’s Coolest Small Towns,” by Budget Travel Magazine.

The coolest people in the tiny Washington County community on Friday night were members of the visiting Patrick Henry High School girls basketball team.

Jaymee Copenhaver scored a season-high 16 points and the red-hot Rebels ran their winning streak to 13 games with a 57-23 Hogoheegee District victory over homestanding Holston.

Continue...Cadence Wilmoth poured in 35 points and pulled down 10 boards as the Patrick Henry Rebels ran their record to 14-3 with a 67-42 Hogoheegee District girls basketball win over Rural Retreat.

Kasey Uecker chipped in 15 points and handed out 10 assists in the win. It was the 13th straight win for PH, which is ranked eight in the latest Associated Press Group A state poll.

Rural Retreat was led by Kala Patton with 16 points.

Fred McCauley led a balanced attack with 11 points as previously winless Patrick Henry claimed a Hogoheegee District decision over Northwood.

The Panthers’ Jason Prater led all scorers with 20 points.

The Rebels (1-16, 1-4) held a 21-13 first quarter lead over the Panthers (1-13, 0-5) en route to the win as Patrick Henry ended a 0-for-16 skid on the season with its first victory.

Uecker also had six assists while Jaymee Copenhaver led the Rebels (12-3, 4-0) with eight rebounds.

Northwood’s (8-4, 3-2) Tori Blevins collected her 1,000th career rebound.

Cadence Wilmoth had the highest point total for the Patrick Henry High School girls basketball team Friday night, but it was Jaymee Copenhaver that came up with perhaps the most important buckets for the Rebels. 

Copenhaver scored seven of her 14 points over the final 4:06 to put the finishing touches on PH’s 52-45 Hogoheegee District victory over Chilhowie.

Continue...BRISTOL, Va. – For the second straight night, Patrick Henry High School’s girls basketball team was in trouble. For the second straight night, Cadence Wilmoth came to the rescue.

Wilmoth scored 24 points, hauled down 11 rebounds and provided a spark as PH earned a 50-44 non-district victory over John Battle on Wednesday.
